Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it. - George Santayana No human being is without
the heart of compassion and empathy; no human being is without the heart of shame and dislike; no human being is
without the heart of courtesy and modesty; no human being is without the heart of right and wrong. - Mencius
Welcome to MHSWWII in Asias web site! We are a non-profit and non partisan organization dedicated to the learning and preserving
the truth of World War II in Asia, in order to prevent war in general and in particular the WW II war crimes in Asia---see
Our Mission for what we aim to accomplish. In order to remember the lessons of WW II in Asia, we need to learn and
preserve the truth of that war. Japans conduct of that war has escaped scrutiny due mainly to change of Allies policy dictated
by Cold War priorities at the expense of justice. As a result, the postwar Japanese government has been dominated by a remnant
of the militaristic regime that has planned and proceeded to conquer Korea, China, and other countries---see Professor Richard
Y. Chus speech (Invited Speech). In A Passion for Justice Professor R. C. Solomon quoted the above passage of Mencius
to argue that justice comprises first of all a constellation of feelings as the soil for grand theories to take root, feelings
such as a sense of compassion and empathy and of righteous indignation. Thus, the issue of justice for the victims has been
raised and needs to be resolved---see conferences on the subject in News & Events and Rabbi A. Coopers address to members
of Japans Diet (Archives). Especially after the Cold War, Japans wartime responsibilities have been subjected to
examination both within and without Japan. Japanese government now maintains that the 1951 peace treaty precludes the claim
by individual victims to compensation. This so-called treaty defense has no merit by international law and Geneva conventions
re armed conflicts. See speeches by Professor L. C. Wang (News & Events) and by Rabbi Cooper and Professor Esturo Totsuka
(Archives). Please look up the Guest Book page of flowers in memory of the victims and Allied forces who made the
supreme sacrifice during Japans war of conquest and register including your name, email address and comments. Thank you.
